European Commission Approves FloriPEFCR Guidelines

Tuesday 20 February 2024

Good news from the world of flowers and plants! The European Commission has given the green light to the FloriPEFCR guidelines. This is a big step forward in the sector's efforts to reduce its environmental impact and make a positive contribution.

The FloriPEFCR, or guidelines for the environmental impact of cut flowers and potted plants, provides a standardised method to measure the ecological footprint. This will apply not only in the EU, but also globally.

At a recent ceremony on 14 February 2024, the 'footprint recipes' were symbolically handed over to Jeroen Oudheusden, executive director of the Floriculture Sustainability Initiative. This is an important milestone that marks the beginning of a new phase, in which the practical application of these guidelines will contribute to reducing the sector's ecological footprint.
