The packaging register

Tuesday 28 May 2024

The packaging register realisation team are: Royal FloraHolland, VGB (on behalf of the FSI Accelerators), Floriday, Blueroots, Floricode and Florapartners.

The floriculture sector faces sustainability challenges such as accurate reporting of used packaging. By collecting this data centrally and making it available, the administrative burden and costs for individual companies can be reduced. Royal Flora Holland's Packaging Register helps with this. With a lot of support from various chain parties.

Working together for transparency

The Packaging Register increases transparency in the chain and promotes sustainability. The idea arose to share information more efficiently and effectively in the chain and meet societal expectations.

Less work for growers and suppliers

Currently, it takes a lot of time for packaging suppliers and buyers to collect data. The Packaging Register will make this easier. Suppliers will soon process all packaging in the register, growers choose which packaging they want to use, and buyers can easily use this information for customs declarations when exporting, for example.

Data unlocked through Floriday

The administrative pressure on growers and buyers is increasing, creating costs that no one sees reflected in their revenues. Floriday unlocks sustainability information for all parties in the chain, increasing efficiency and providing more transparency in the marketplace.

Building and learning together

A project plan has been drawn up to deal with sustainability data. A small start will be made with a Minimal Viable Product (MVP) from the Packaging Register. If the pilot is successful, it will be scaled up further. The register can serve as a model for further digitisation and sustainability initiatives in the floriculture sector.

More than technology

The Packaging Register is more than a technology project; it is a concerted effort to make the sector more sustainable and maintain a positive image. This initiative is a first step in that direction.
