The Knowledge Institute for Sustainable Packaging (KIDV) has compiled seven tips for sustainable packaging. These are seven concise points to consider when enhancing the sustainability of your packaging. Here is Tip #3: ‘Use material sparingly’. You can do this by using or making thinner flower sleeves, or using reusable collars instead of one-off cardboard ones. Tip #4: ‘Ensure a clean flow of materials that can be recycled well’. This can be tricky. How do you know which types of plastic are good to recycle, and which are not? We will be sharing more information with you on this in the coming weeks, particularly in relation to this tip.
Try to look at your packaging with a critical eye by applying these seven tips. You can consider the purpose for which you are using the packaging, for example. Could you achieve the same goal with a different material, or with less packaging? Are you using the packaging as efficiently as possible? Do customers know in which bin (paper, plastic or residual waste) they should dispose of the packaging? These tips will tell you, in a nutshell, which aspects of your packaging can be made more sustainable.
