Chrysal is committed to a zero impact flower industry

Tuesday 15 October 2024

At a time when sustainability is playing an increasingly important role, Chrysal, as the market leader in flower nutrition, is ready to set the bar high. The company is committed to contributing to a more beautiful and sustainable world by working towards a climate-neutral flower industry with their program Chrysal Cares.

Climate neutral by 2030

Chrysal aims to be completely climate neutral by 2030. To achieve this, the company conducted a comprehensive analysis of its carbon footprint in 2019 in collaboration with Ecochain. This Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) provides valuable insights that guide future product developments and enables Chrysal to further support partners and customers in achieving their sustainability goals. By combating climate change and actively taking measures to reduce CO2 emissions, Chrysal wants to contribute to a climate-proof future.

Circular solutions

An important part of Chrysal's sustainable innovations is the development of circular packaging. One example is the new paper flower food bag, which contributes to the circular economy. This bag, made of fully recyclable paper, can be easily disposed of in the paper bin (depending on local waste disposal rules). By making this sustainable choice, Chrysal is helping to reduce the amount of plastic in the flower industry.

Besides the packaging itself, the bag also contains Chrysal's 99% Bio Based flower food, derived from renewable organic raw materials such as plants. This nutrient significantly improves the shelf life of flowers, with up to 60% longer vase life compared to water alone. By choosing these innovative pouches, florists can not only keep flowers fresher for longer, but also contribute to a bio-based economy and the reduction of plastic waste.

Contributing to a sustainable economy

Besides its goal of becoming climate neutral, Chrysal also plays an important role in promoting a circular economy. The company has set ambitious targets to be at least 50% circular by 2030 and increase this to 100% by 2040. To achieve these goals, Chrysal is focusing on developing circular packaging made from fully recycled and reusable materials. This will help reduce the amount of plastic in the environment and ensure that raw materials are optimally utilised.

Towards a positive impact

Chrysal not only wants to eliminate negative environmental impacts, but strives to make a positive contribution to the environment on which the company depends. This means that in addition to reducing CO2 emissions, it is also actively working to support biodiversity and sustainable land and water use. By investing in green technologies and sharing techniques with partners, Chrysal aims to transform the flower industry into one that is not only less environmentally damaging, but actually contributes to the health of our planet.
